A universal solution for multi-material FDM 3D printing

Arx-FS

Arxnovo’s Filament Swap is a universal multi-material system for use with any FDM 3D printer, currently in development. The aim is for a system that can be retrofitted to any DFM 3D printer, legacy or modern, with minimum effort from the user. It will allow seamless, automated swapping of depleted reels. Arx‑FS combines heated storage, high-speed swapping, and smart filament sensors (breakage, entanglement, blockage) in a compact package. Designed for creators, makers, and print farms, it is slicer and firmware agnostic and will not lock you to a commercial ecosystem.

Plug & Play Compatibility

Works with any printer that allows serial connection via USB; no firmware locks.

Actively heated Dry-Box

Sealed enclosure with active heating, up to 80 °C.

Scalability

We are working on an innovative approach that will allow users to connect multiple systems for 4-8 or more materials, with the ability to also serve IDEX and multi-tool setups.

Smart filament Monitoring

Detects jams, tracks usage, and enables remote oversight.

Why Arx-FS

Traditionally FDM 3D Printing was single color and required some amount of post-processing by removing support. Multi-material systems allow the users to use colour, elevating the aesthetics, mix material with different properties increasing functionality and using a combination of materials for easy support removal. Today these systems are becoming more common and there is also a community developing source options. However the majority of the consumer or novice friendly systems are available only as a bundle for a specific printer and tie the users to the manufacturers ecosystem of products. They might also have additional limitations that hinder performance and the general consensus is that these systems are difficult to integrate to legacy 3D printers.

The 3D printing filament market was $1.12 billion in 2024 and projected to reach $3.83B in the next decade. This is because of rising demand for custom manufacturing, adoption of 3D printed parts by the manufacturing and medical industries and advance in high performance filaments to suit those industries.

What is Ark-FS offering

Universal Multi-Material Capability

Easy to set up, no firmware reflashing. USB/G-code connection makes it compatible with Marlin, RepRap, Klipper, and printers that can be controlled via USB.

Active Heater

he chamber heats to 80 °C by 2 separate heaters, reducing moisture content on the filament. This is particular important for reducing moisture-driven failures with nylon and PETG filaments.

Jam Detection and filament swap

Magnetic rotary encoders and several filament sensors across the path enable fast issue detection. We are working on implementing a visual warning sign that will allow users to tend the print.

On the fly filament swapping

The system will swap an empty reel with another available reel, allowing the printer to continue without human intervention. This is particular useful on long prints and render-farms.

Modern UI and web interface

Access to features and settings via a 4” capacitive screen or remotely via a web interface connecting to your Wi-Fi network. Settings are all accessible via the screen and Wi-Fi can be decibels for security reasons.

No binding you to specific ecosystem

You have a larger pool of 3d printers to select from. Render farm can decouple the filament system from the 3d printers.
